I am thrilled to be patron again for this year’s UWI London Benefit Dinner on Friday, November 7, 2025, at The Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn in London. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. and is themed “Educate to Elevate”. Proceeds from the dinner will support postgraduate scholarships for students researching topics related to climate change.

#LordSimonWoolley & his equally kindly colleagues presented a spectacular event, with a champagne reception, opera performance and splendid dinner.

This Autumn saw the launch of Newham Academy Through the Ages. The school has produced many successful students that have become very successful in various fields of endeavour, including politics!
It’s such a travesty that most school children in state school education do not have these opportunities now. The exhibition runs in east London throughout September 2025 and online thereafter. Details may be obtained at the following link.

I am greatly honoured to be invited to the Memorial of the very honourable Sir Geoffrey Palmer by his dear Family. The family have also requested some of my music to be performed, including ‘Psalm to Windrush for the Brave & Ingenious’, for SATB Choir & Orchestra, as a part of the event, a piece that epitomises Sir Geoffrey. All the attendees to the Memorial are invited to join the choir in singing Marley Mix, my arrangements of the Hon Bob Marley classics.

This newly formed orchestra of mostly Royal College of Music students and alumni, conducted by Maestro Guiseppe Stillitano, will perform PAPA for Counter Tenor and String Orchestra and SEMPLICE SEMPRE for String Orchestra. The mission of the Orchestra is to highlight the historical and present links between British and Italian musicians.

Leading British Soprano, Nadine Benjamin and virtuoso pianist and composer, Maria Thompson Corley join forces to perform contemporary songs and piano works by African composers at the iconic, Wigmore Hall, 36 Wigmore Street, London W1U 2BP. Love and sacrifice run as themes in a compelling programme that explores life’s joys and sorrows. The joyous spirit of African women is reflected in a multitude of ways, including the arching melodies of Shirley J. Thompson’s Psalm 84 setting, written for the inaugural Windrush Day Service on 22 June in 2018 performed at Westminster Abbey by the Windrush Soloists (SSTB) & Organ.

‘A HYMN TO THE EVENING’ in THE SOUTH DOWNS SONG BOOK album, featured as The Guardian’s Album of the Month (November 2024) will be performed by Rachel Farago and Orchestra of Sound and Light at Cinema, Towner Eastbourne, BN21 4JJ on Sunday, 13 July from 2 pm.

On the final day of the annual AHRC funded, Techne Summer Congress, this year featured Challenging Pasts, Critical Futures and the filmed opera, Women of the Windrush, conceived, scripted, composed, produced and directed by Professor Dr Shirley J. Thompson OBE is to be screened at the iconic Regent Street Cinema. In Challenging Pasts, Critical Futures, this Techne Congress considers the impact of research. On Day 2 of the National Windrush Summit produced by the National Windrush Museum and the University of Greenwich, Professor Dr Shirley J. Thompson OBE, Composer and Academic, converses with the Chair of the National Windrush Museum, Dr Les Johnson, Fine Artist & Academic on the artistic and cultural activism they have created through their innumerable creative artefacts from the 1980’s to the present day. Works such as SUSpected, A Series of Conversations in 7 Movements for Piano (1980) and VISIONS for Orchestra (1984), a work reflecting on the vision of Hon Maurice Bishop’s Caribbean self-determination are to explored.

As part of the Clare College, Cambridge Lunchtime Series, Alison Smart Fisher, Soprano and Katharine Durran, Piano will perform songs from the New French Songs 2 album, which includes my song, Le Calendrier, in the beautiful chapel of Clare College. The performance will last 45 minutes with a programme of some of the Chaminade/Tailleferre/Bracquemond songs plus the complete set of New French Song 2. In the The Marshall Opera Oral History Project each artist connects with their assigned composer through an interview, which is shared on the Marshall Opera YouTube channel. Shirley J. As part of the project, the young artists prepare and perform an aria composed by their assigned composer for this program. Alison will perform Precious Skies. The concert will last approximately 90 minutes and will be presented without an intermission. The ticket price includes a wine reception following the concert where you will have an opportunity to meet with both the composers and young artists.
